Christmas!!🎄🤍

What an amazing week this was! Last pday we went shopping for Christmas and had a pretty chill day, nothing too crazy.

Our friend Audrey did not get baptized last week, but she is now going to be baptized this Thursday which we are super excited for and she is SO ready!! One of the coolest people I have ever met! 

Our friends Djani and Ahmad also are doing very well with progressing towards baptism next month so we are really excited about that! We have some of the most prepared people right now! 

Christmas was amazing as well. It was for sure different, but in a good way. I'm so grateful for the opportunity to have focused on Christ even more!! We were able to eat dinner with some members on Christmas Eve and on Christmas day we spent it with our district and a senior couple. Our district decided to do a live nativity so that was pretty fun! Lots of good food and lots of good company! I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas! 

We had an amazing miracle just yesterday where we needed to find a few more people to hit our goal for the week and we prayed for help to find people who were truly prepared to receive the Gospel before going out to street contact. After street contacting for a little bit we were able to find a mom and her 2 sons! She said just that morning she prayed and asked God for a sign and we were able to be that sign! God really is in the details and they are so prepared!

This week was a crazy but good week! Last pday we were able to hang out with the district which is always a good time! 

We are so excited for our friend Audrey to hopefully be baptized this week! She is still doing her best to overcome the word of wisdom but we have faith that she will be able to and that she will be baptized soon! And we were able to put our friend Ahmad on baptismal date this month! 

We also were able to go on exchanges with 2 other companionships this week, and I got to go up to Yorktown! It was fun to be with some of the other sisters and we saw SO many miracles! I even attempted to street contact in Spanish haha, and it went surprisingly well with the 3 sentences I know how to say. 

And we had zone conference! Which is always so good and I learned a lot! I'm so grateful for our Savior and all He did for me personally and for all of us. And for this time of year where we focus on Him even more! We also had a talent show during lunch with the zones that were there which made for a good time. 

I don't have too much to write about this week, but I am so grateful for all of you and your love, support and prayers. Please keep Audrey and Ahmad in your prayers!

This week I read the classic parable of the mote and the beam in 3 Nephi 14. I invite all of you to think about how in your lives you could judge less and focus more on the things you can improve in your own life.

9 months as a missionary!

What a good week it was this week! I have now been a missionary for 9 months, 9 left to go! Time has flown by! Last pday we were able to have permission to have a zone pday because we found 100 people as a zone! We played some good ol' volleyball and I loved it! We also were able to find lots of new friends this week and some are starting to progress towards baptism so we're excited about that! 

On Tuesday we had transfers and Sister Call and I had an amazing week and saw so many miracles. One of the coolest ones was while we were street contacting we had a goal to teach one more person the restoration before we needed to head home and Sister Call suggested that we say a prayer. Just a few second after we said amen this guy came running down the street. We were able to stop him and teach him the restoration in the crazy snow. As we were finishing the conversation he mentioned how much better he already felt and how grateful he was that we stopped him. God answers prayers and he truly has a plan for each of his children. 

We also were able to meet someone on Monday night named Dijani and just yesterday we had an amazing spirit filled lesson and were able to put him on date. He is sooo prepared and really receptive. He is on date for January 15th and we are excited to help him work towards it! 

Our friend Audrey is amazing as always. She is still working towards being baptized in just a little bit on the 22nd! She is so prepared and her testimony is so strong! If you could all continue to pray for her to have strength to overcome the word of wisdom that would be amazing! 

MLC was this week as well and we were able to set some amazing mission goals and gain some training on how to be better missionaries! And this week is zone conference and we are all heading down to Manhattan for it so that will be exciting! 

That was about it for this week! I love this work and I love our Heavenly Father and my Savior so much. I'm grateful for all the amazing miracles I am able to see as a missionary and in my life because of them! 

Spiritual Thought: 

Alma 32:10-11 

"10 Behold I say unto you, do ye suppose that ye cannot worship God save it be in your synagogues only?

11 And moreover, I would ask, do ye suppose that ye must not worship God only once in a week?" 

As I read this scripture it made me really think about how I can worship God always and not just when we are at church or just on Sundays. We need to worship and remember Him and our Savior always. I invite all of you to think about how you can more fully worship our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ more than just once a week in your own life.

December!!

What a good week! It was the last week of the transfer and I found out I am staying here in Elmsford! Sister Vera is going to Brooklyn though and Sister Call who has been in district will be my new companion! I'm super stoked! 

On Monday we went to this crepe place and got some delicious crepes with one of our friends! And went thrifting which was a good time! 

We also had a ward Christmas party this week! It was super good! We had a few friends come and it was good to get to know the ward members better! 

Not too much happened this week and I don't have too much time to write but our friends Audrey and Ahmad are doing amazing and Audrey is planning on being baptized the 22nd, so please pray for her!! 

This week as I read in The Book of Mormon I loved these verses in Mosiah 27: 

"32 And now it came to pass that Alma began from this time forward to teach the people, and those who were with Alma at the time the angel appeared unto them, traveling round about through all the land, publishing to all the people the things which they had heard and seen, and preaching the word of God in much tribulation, being greatly persecuted by those who were unbelievers, being smitten by many of them. 

33 But notwithstanding all this, they did impart much consolation to the church, confirming their faith, and exhorting them with long-suffering and much travail to keep the commandments of God." 

Even when they were rejected they still preached the word unto the people. This week we saw lots of rejection, but as we continued to preach the Gospel we saw SO many miracles. Never give up sharing the Gospel in your life even if people don't accept it the first time!

What a good week! Last pday we were able to get together with the district and eat some yummy food! We had Yonkers rolls which are soo good! They are kind of like a pizza pocket, but way better haha. And we played some good ol' charades! 

We also were able to find lots of new friends this week so that was exciting! We now have 3 of our friends on date as well. They all have word of wisdom struggles so please pray for them, but we are super excited about all of them! Their names are Josie, Audrey and Shayna. As well as finding lots of friends we had some cool friends come to church! Our friend Ed who we have been teaching for a little bit was able to come, our friend Ahmad and Audrey was able to come to church too! 

Our friend Ahmad when we first met him a few weeks ago didn't know if he even believed in God and within just a few weeks he has started praying, reading the scriptures, attended a baptism and came to church! He really is so prepared and one of the coolest people I have ever met. 

One of our friends we met this week on the street turned out to be an NBA basketball player and he plays on the junior team for the Knicks, so that was pretty cool. He didn't answer for when we set up a return appointment, but he now has a Book of Mormon so that sweet! 

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving! We were able to eat with the Clark family in our ward and it was  so sweet to be with them and their family. They made some good traditional Thanksgiving food!

"9 Believe in God; believe that he is, and that he created all things, both in heaven and in earth; believe that he has all wisdom, and all power, both in heaven and in earth; believe that man doth not comprehend all the things which the Lord can comprehend."

3 course meal!! Baptism!!

This week was a good week! Last pday we went to Yonkers and ate at a burger place with the sisters in our district! And played some good old fashion slap jack! 

Our friend Malik got baptized this week which was amazing! He was so prepared and ready for this next step! BEST DAY EVER! And one of our friends Ahmad, who we found on my exchange with Sister Robison, came to the baptism! When we found him he was atheist but he now has been trying to pray and loved the baptism! The members here are amazing and made the baptism so special! He also read a poem at his baptism so that was awesome! Haha 

Our friend Audrey is also doing well and still preparing for her baptism in December! If you could all continue to pray for her to have strength to overcome the word of wisdom that would be amazing! 

I also was able to go on exchanges with Sister Winkel in Yonkers which was a good time! It was the Spanish area so I was hopeless but it was a fun time haha. I tried to street contact someone in Spanish and he said he wasn't interested and after I turned to Sister Winkel and asked if what I said made since and it definitely didn't ahaha but I tried! We also got some yummy tacos! 

We also had one of the coolest miracles this week! A few weeks ago when we were street contacting on exchanges we talked to these girls who weren't interested but they gave us their friend named Brennens phone #. We found out he is a sophomore and does Bible studies with friends every Friday night so we joined their Bible study that's run by 2 20 year olds. It was good but not what we expected so we probably won't be going back haha. Just wasn't super effective. 

There was a guy we met by the library named Donovan this week who is super cool as well! We originally weren't gonna talk with him because we had somewhere to be, but we did anyway and he said he was wanting to get back into religion. Sadly he didn't come to church but we'll hopefully be able to meet with him soon! 

On Sunday Malik got confirmed which was amazing! And our friend Sherwin got the Melchizedek priesthood! He also fed us a 3 course meal on Sunday and it was delicious but sooo much food! We were so full! 

Here's a scripture I wanted to share from this week! 2 Nephi 32:9

"9 But behold, I say unto you that ye must pray always, and not faint; that ye must not perform any thing unto the Lord save in the first place ye shall pray unto the Father in the name of Christ, that he will consecrate thy performance unto thee, that thy performance may be for the welfare of thy soul."

We must pray always and include the Lord in all we do so he can consecrate our efforts!

Exchanges!

This week was an amazing week! On Monday we didn't do anything too crazy for pday, but we had 2 back to back exchanges on Thursday and Friday! I got to go on an exchange with Sister Robison and Sister Call. Sister Robison and I found 4 people in 1 night and we ended up finding 14 this week which is crazy! And our mission found over 830 people this week! 

Also our friend Malik is so ready for his baptism on Sunday and passed his baptismal interview yesterday! He called us today to let us know how the interview went and said that he is super excited for his baptism!! 

Our friend Audrey who is on date for december is doing well still too! We had one of our senior couple sisters join us in a lesson this week and the spirit was so strong! Audrey is one of the most prepared people I have ever met. She still has some word of wisdom struggles so if you could all continue to pray for her to have strength to overcome them that would be amazing! 

On Saturday we went to Yonkers and set up a table in the park and had people write what they were grateful for with the Spanish Sisters. It was super fun and we were able to find a few cool people there! 

Also at zone conference a few weeks ago we were invited to read The Book of Mormon by the end of the year so that'll be exciting! 

So many miracles are happening here in this area and I truly love being a missionary and love the Lords work! I have really felt the power of testimony this week and have seen so many hearts softened through bearing a simple heart felt testimony. I love this Gospel!

He loves and accepts ALL of us and wants YOU to come unto Him no matter where or who you are! ❤

Zone Conference and MLC!

This week was another pretty busy one! On Monday we went to Sleepy Hollow with the district after we got back from Manhattan which was pretty fun! And we went and got some yummy food as always at a place called Mooyah. 

Our friend Malik who is on baptismal date right now is doing good and is planning to be baptized in 2 weeks which is super exciting! We are just trying to help him stay strong as he continues to prepare, so if you could all keep him in your prayers that would be amazing. Audrey is on date and doing good as well! Super excited for her. She has some word of wisdom road blocks but is doing her best to overcome them by December so she can be baptized! Our friend Jodelson who was on date blocked us this week so that was super sad and we aren't sure why he blocked us. 

I also had the chance this week to go on my first overnight exchange with Sister Dennis! She is seriously amazing! She went to Snow College as well and I had a class with her brother, so small world! We had a really cool exchange miracle with a lady who was contacted in the parking lot where we live before I got here. She hadn't been in contact with the sisters but the day before exchanges she texted us back and on the day of exchanges we called her and found out she really only speaks Spanish but Sister Dennis speaks Spanish and we were able to set up a lesson with her later in the day. So later that day Sister Dennis taught the whole Restoration lesson in Spanish and the lady even referred her sister, but the coolest part was that her and her sister are in Sister Dennis' area and she was here on the right day to be able to teach this sweet lady! God's timing is perfect! 

We also had Zone Conference which is always SO good! It was very focused on opening our mouths and how to street contact and door knock which made me just want to go talk to everyone I ever see! They also fed us an early thanksgiving dinner which was delicious. The next day we had MLC which was also SO good and I learned a ton. 

The other night I also had my first real missionary door knock experience haha. We knocked this older mans door and he told us he wasn't interested and his wife was not happy we were there so we leave and they shut the door, but Sister Vera and I turned around to put a pass along card and pamphlet on their door. As I was putting them on the door he smacked the back side of the door and as we walked away he opened the door and chucked the pamphlet. Honestly all Sister Vera and I could do was laugh it off haha. But we met some cool people in that neighborhood and some cool things happened regardless of this older man. 

We had the opportunity to meet with a really cool guy named Ed last night who came to the Halloween party with one of the past people we have taught. He watched the whole Restoration movie and had lots of amazing questions so we are really excited to continue to meet with him! 

Spiritual Thought: 

At zone conference, something that was mentioned was being a doer and not just a hearer of the word. The act of doing is a lot more than just hearing. We need to be heading to the words in the scriptures and from our Prophet and Apostles. I invite all of you to think of something you can start doing this week to be a doer more than a hearer of the word.

Westchester week #1!

This week has been kind of a crazy one! On Monday we spent some time with our district and played some sports at the church and got some Chick-Fil-A! After that I did lots of packing which was sad and I miss Manhattan, but Westchester is amazing and this area has some amazing people. 

On Tuesday we had transfers and it was pouring rain. We were super worried we wouldn't be able to make it to the church for transfers because the subway's would be flooded. Luckily they weren't bad and we were able to make it to the church on time. I would not recommend luggage on the subway though, that is for sure haha. 

I love being in Westchester and fall here is so pretty. We also have a wayyy nice apartment and are a little spoiled. This week was very busy, this area finds like crazy and with all of the STL (Sister Training Leader) things it made for a busy time. We are teaching some amazing people though. One being our friend Malik who is currently on date and doing well! We also are teaching someone named Jodelson who is on date as well. Our friend Audrey we are planning to put on date this week so stay tuned, she is awesome. There are some other cool people we are teaching that are starting to progress, but those are a few of our main friends. There also is a really cool family who has been meeting with the missionaries for 6 years and the wife wants to be baptized but the husband won't let her, which is super sad. But we got to eat with their family on Sunday and they are all so amazing! 

My companion and her old companion got asked to do a role play of how they teach the Restoration for the whole mission and it was hard for them to do it not being together, so last night we had to drive to Manhattan to the mission home for them to be able to do the role play and I went on an overnight exchange here in Westchester with 2 others Sisters. We got to drive back to Manhattan this morning again to pick them up and it was crazy to be back in Manhattan! But the role play was amazing and how they teach the Restoration has changed my mission. 

1 Nephi 17:3 

"3 And thus we see that the commandments of God must be fulfilled. And if it so be that the children of men keep the commandments of God he doth nourish them, and strengthen them, and provide means whereby they can accomplish the thing which he has commanded them; wherefore, he did provide means for us while we did sojourn in the wilderness."

I know that if we keep the commandments, we will be blessed and the Lord will provide us with the things that we need! I invite all of you to assess your lives and think of one thing you can do to better keep the commandments of God.

Transfers! Westchester!

Last pday was a fun one! We went and did lots of things! We saw where Broadway is, the Trump tower, Radio City, Little Island, the Highline, and Chelsea Market.

I found out that I will be transferred to Westchester tomorrow and will be an stl(sister training leader). I'm very sad to be leaving Manhattan but I know Westchester is where the Lord needs me. I also have randomly been learning a little bit of Spanish as my companion studies her Japanese and I've started trying to pray in Spanish. My new companion, Sister Vera, in Westchester speaks Spanish and a lot of my zone does, so I'm excited to be around others who are speaking it and hopefully learn more! 

We also had another one of our recent converts reply to us this week! Missionaries have been trying to get in touch with her through Facebook, knocking and about any other way you could think of since February and she reached out to us this last week! We are planning to meet with her tonight so I'm really excited! 

We sadly were not able to meet with the random guy who showed up to church last week but we did meet a super cool guy while street contacting named Rodd! We were walking down by the Hudson and decided to turn around and walk the other way instead, then there was Rodd! We simply just said hello but he stopped and continued talking with us and we found out he was Christian and interested in meeting. We met the next day and the day after. He sadly wasn't able to make it to church this weekend, but he is one of the most prepared people I have ever met! That's about it for this week! Love you a

Spiritual Thought: 

I loved reading 2 Nephi 4:20 this week. 

"20 My God hath been my support; he hath led me through mine afflictions in the wilderness; and he hath preserved me upon the waters of the great deep."

I love this because Nephi knew that it was because of God that he was able to do all that he did. I know that it is because of the Lord that I am able to do all that I can do. I know that you all can do anything through the Lord! I invite you all to think about how in your life, you can trust in the Lord more and allow Him to be your strength and support.

The Weekly!

This week was full of lots of ups and downs! On Monday I went on the Staten Island Ferry for the 3rd time because Sister Rasband really wanted to see the Statue of Liberty. After the ferry we went to the 9/11 memorial pools and the world trade center. And as always we hit the souvenir shops! 

On Tuesday some awesome members in the ward ordered us shawarma and falafel. I'm not a huge fan of falafel but shawarma was pretty good! We also got gyros again at the gyro truck by the temple so lots of lamb this week! We also decided to try contacting at a different park, called Riverside this week which runs right along the Hudson. We met lots of cool people there and were able to get quite a few numbers so that was exciting. There are a lot more locals there than at central park 😂

We got to go in the Manhattan Temple this week as well and it was so amazing! I love the temple! Right after the temple we had an amazing lesson with Megan and we had one of my recent convert friends from staten island join our lesson and share his testimony. It was exactly what Megan needed to hear. We also shared with her that there are misconceptions about our church and she asked about what Latter Day Saints meant so we explained that to her and she said it all made sense, we also warned her about Satan and how he tries even harder to pull us away when we are getting closer to God. At the end we asked her if she had any questions and she said, "Nope, but I'm getting baptized!" It was the sweetest thing and we were so excited...but the next day she texted us and said that she doesn't feel like she can get baptized and become a "Latter Day Saint" or be "Mormon". I cannot stress enough as President Nelson, Elder Andersen and others have, how important it is to use the correct name of the church. We are The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, we are Christ's church on the earth today! It is so important that we help others realize who we are and what we are about. I invite all of you to do all you can to help others know who we really are and remember to use to correct name of the church always. As President Nelson has said, "The name of the church is non-negotiable." He also has mentioned that when we leave Christ out of it we let Satan win. 

We had ysa stake conference this week which was really good. We had one of my random Facebook friends show up for like the last 10 minutes because she got a little lost on the subway 😬 and we found out she lives in Jersey, but we were glad she came! We also had some random guy show up at church for the Manhattan 1st ward. His name is Seymour and he's so cool! We are planning to meet with him Tuesday and are hoping things go well! We didn't know him before and he said he wasn't invited by anyone, he just came.

Chinatown! MEGAN IS ON DATE!

 Hello Everyone!

Last pday we went to Chinatown with our district and got some yummy food! We went for soup dumplings, but we did things family style and I was just eating what was in front of me so to be honest half the time I didn't know what anything was😅 it was all delicious though! We also went around to some souvenir shops and they love to make you negotiate there. They don't put prices on anything and a lot of the people just stand at the street and try to get you to come into their store. After that we went and got mochi donuts which were kind of weird but good! 

This week we got to meet with Megan which went well. We have started to teach the commandments and so far she has been good with things, but this week we are planning to teach the word of wisdom and law of tithing so we're hoping that goes well. She also came to a baptism on Sunday! Sadly we didn't get her to church, but she did come to the baptism and she loved it. We had a member come and watch it with us and then had a talk with her and the member afterwards. She asked if she decided to get baptized if it would have to be on a Saturday or Sunday and we told her no, and asked if she had a day in mind since she asked that question. She then said if she were were get baptized she would want to get baptized on November 19th. Her golden birthday! So she put herself on date right then and we are so excited to keep helping her prepare for that! Thank you for all of your prayers for her, please keep praying for her to have strength to overcome her concerns🙏

We also got to do some family history this week so that's always a good time! The older man we randomly met on the street came in and it was pretty cool because we found out his wife was Japanese American and Sister Rasband was able to see all of the Japanese names and help find these people. I thought it was a pretty cool experience for her to be able to do that as she isn't able to be in Japan right now. He sadly was kind of offended when we asked if we could pray at the start though because he's Jewish, so sadly after meeting with him he didn't seem to want to set something up again, but we're still so glad we were able to help him start building his family tree! 

After we were done with family history one day this week, one of the security guards at the temple who has a very cool story but has had some struggles with people in the church talked to us about family history! He recently lost his father and is planning to go to Africa to see family and remember his father and he said he wants to talk to his family members over there and get all the information he needs to be able to do their work. And he mentioned that he is like 85% there with baptism and thinks within the next year he will be ready to be baptized! It was some of the best news because he is a better missionary than all of us and literally hands out pass along cards and Book of Mormons on the subway and now it's his turn to be able to make these covenants and receive the blessing that he can receive! 

I also started reading The Book of Mormon again this week and I loved the first verse so much, it hit me in a different way than ever before. 

1 Nephi 1:1 

"1. I, Nephi, having been born of goodly parents, therefore I was taught somewhat in all the learning of my father; and having seen many afflictions in the course of my days, nevertheless, having been highly favored of the Lord in all my days; yea, having had a great knowledge of the goodness and the mysteries of God, therefore I make a record of my proceedings in my days." 

Nephi was highly favored of the Lord and he still had trials and afflictions come in his life. It made me think that when we have trials and afflictions, it is not the Lord punishing us or trying to make our lives horrible but we are favored of the Lord and these trials and afflictions, just like they did for Nephi, can shape us into the people the Lord knows we can become and help us become stronger. ❤

Conference! It's October!

This week was a good week! On Monday we played kickball with our whole zone and it was a super fun time! 

Tuesday and Wednesday were very busy for us! We were able to meet someone named Greg who was previously in contact with missionaries for a short time and he is so cool! We're excited to keep meeting with him! We also were able to meet with some more members which is always a good time! And we met with Megan! Megan is doing well. We had a very spirit filled lesson on Wednesday and invited her to be baptized on the 23d of this month. There has always seemed like there was something holding her back and this lesson she finally started expressing her concerns about baptism and now we know her needs so we can start helping resolve her concerns to help her prepare to get baptized! If you could include her in your prayers it would be greatly appreciated! 

On Wednesday we also were standing outside of the church deciding if we were going to take the train or the bus home and this older man started talking to us and asked where we were going. He then told us he knew a member of the church once and that he used to do family history at our church. We right then set up a lesson to meet with him the next day and we were able to find the documents he was looking for. He was the cutest old man! 

Thursday night we had 4 friends planning to attend ysa volleyball and 2 of them ended up coming! There also were 2 others there that a member invited who were not members and we were able to talk with them so that was awesome! The Lord truly is placing people in our path. 

Conference was the best as always! SOOO many good talks!! We had quite a few friends watch so that was awesome! By far the best church week on the mission haha. One of my favorite talks was the one by President Oaks. He focused on the importance of sabbath day observance. I love the opportunity we have to have a personal relationship with God and feel that it is very important to study and ponder on our own, but how important is it that we also worship with others! And that we go to church to be able to partake of the sacrament and become better through our Savior, Jesus Christ! I testify that we need each other and we need our Savior, just as much as we need that personal relationship.
